RE: Impact of VIP

Last September, as I was pulling out of my drive way headed to work, I turned on the radio and decided to listen to my favorite Jazz CD, “Love Supreme” by Charlie Parker; and as I was getting ready to change from radio to the CD player the advertisement for VIP came on and I listened intently.  The key take away from the advertisement was that they needed mentors to make a difference in a child’s life.  And I decided to call VIP and volunteer as a mentor and with the support of VIP’s staff I was placed with Kayla P.

I met Kayla and her Aunt Crystal, November 16^th at the VIP office and I have to say it was such an emotional experience for me.  As I write this letter my eyes begin to tear, because this young lady has experienced so much in her young life and there she was smiling and looking forward to our new friendship.  This would have never taken place without a program like VIPs.  Kayla and I have shared new experiences and learned so much from one another.  She keeps my heart humble, spirit young, and always feeling blessed to have her in my life.  VIP does two things for our children:  One this program gives them hope.  Two, VIP shows them despite all the negative things that have impacted in their lives they still can rise to greatness.

In closing, I would like to thank VIP for raising the bar and taking a stand for our children.
